Coaching Tip of the Month
Keeping your knowledge up to date - CCEUs - Continuing Coach Education Units
Becoming an ICF credentialed coach is an outstanding achievement in the coaching career, resulting from a significant investment in training and coaching experience hours.
To ensure the coaching competencies and knowledge are always up to date, ICF requires credentials to be renewed every three years as part of the commitment to providing consistent value to ICF coaches clients.
What are CCEUs?
CCEUs are Continuing Coach Education Units. Each Unit corresponds to one hour of ICF-approved education activities, which may include: coach-specific training, professional development events, and coaching tools training. Many education activities are eligible for CCEUs, and coaches can apply them to renew their ICF credentials.
There are two categories of CCEs:
- Core Competencies: advanced coaching training that directly relates to or expands upon the ICF Core Competencies.
- Resource Development: training in skills that contribute to a coach’s professional development but fall outside the ICF Core Competencies.
CCEUs can be obtained via ICF-approved training programs or other training, including self-paced courses and other self-study. You can read the detailed description of the Continuing Professional Development
here.
Why are CCEUs important?
Every three years, when applying for the
credential renewal
(ACC, PCC, or MCC), a coach must attest the participation in at least 40 hours of Continuing Coach Education completed in the three years since the initial award of the credential or since the last credential renewal.
How to track your CCEUs?
You have three years to focus on your education.
ICF provides excellent sources of continuing education: The
ICF Learning Portal
and your
ICF Chapter and regional events
.
In 2020, ICF South Florida chapter members who participated in all CCEUs approved activities received more than 15 CCEUs. This year won’t be different. The training opportunities offered both by ICF Global and by our chapter will largely contribute for you to meet the minimum CCEU requirements.
Remember to save your certificates – it will make it easier to add the information when it’s credential renewal time. Don’t leave to the last minute to invest in keeping your coaching education up to date!
