Erika was born in México. She is currently Canadian and American, and lives in Miami, USA.
With over 25 years of experience, Erika is a daughter of two psychologists who instilled the love for the profession in her.
She graduated as a Clinical Psychologist in Mexico, specializing in music therapy and afterwards did her Masters in Educational Psychology.
She was responsible for providing play therapy to abandoned and abused children in the temporary shelter of the Instituto del Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF). She created and developed a program of Multiple Stimulation for children with different disabilities like: Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Hyperactivity, Mental Weakness, etc. in the Instituto Torres Quintero.
She held her private practice for years, giving therapy to families, children, and couples. Since then, Erika has given workshops for parents and professors in schools and institutes, specializing in hispanic families.
Since the beginnings of her profession until now, Erika is consistently invited to participate in radio and television programs as a specialist in education and psychology, as well as asked to collaborate in magazine and newspaper articles.
She resided in Canada where she had the opportunity to explore her curiosity about the Art of Body Makeup with members of the makeup design team for the French-Canadian company, Cirque du Soleil. Thus she established herself as a Body Makeup Artist, widely known as “Body Painting”.
She is the owner of AKIN Body Painting, a company specialized in social events, using body makeup as a medium for artistic expression. She has been invited by various radio and television shows; participates in festivals and art galleries, and was invited to audition for the reality TV show, Skin Wars. Her art has been displayed in countries such as Italy, France, Mexico, Canada, and Switzerland.
She has searched for a creative and original way to combine her experience as a Psychologist and an Artist; thus creating Painting Emotions Workshop ™. This workshop is a tool to use art as a means of expressing and understanding emotional factors and living in balance, and is offered in group form internationally.
Erika Monroy is currently co-owner of The Thinking Institute (TTI), center of learning for Emotional Wellbeing and Personal Growth. It specializes in offering virtual workshops, in English and Spanish for parents, children, and teenagers. Erika received training from the International Coach Federation (ICF) to become a Certified Professional Coach. She also became certified as a Thai Masseuse in the Traditional Medical School Wat Po in Bangkok, Tailandia.
Today, Erika has been able to bring together her experience as a Psychologist, Educational Psychologist, Artist, Educator, Professional Coach, and Masseuse; considering her hispanic roots, as an immigrant and mother, to create a unique and particular style of guiding families, parents, teenagers, couples, and individuals based on developing abilities which enrich the lives of successful people in a balanced manner.
