Trust Yourself: The Hardest Skill in Leadership Decision-Making

Leaders are trained to analyze, gather input, and consider multiple perspectives before making decisions. Yet the most difficult moments in leadership often arise when there is no clear answer and no full agreement.

In those moments, leaders must rely on something deeper: Their own judgment.

However, many leaders lose trust in their internal compass under pressure. Competing priorities, strong personalities, fear of being wrong, and the desire to keep everyone aligned can lead to hesitation, overanalysis, or delayed decisions. Over time, this erodes confidence and slows leadership effectiveness.

This session explores why trusting oneself is one of the hardest yet most essential leadership skills.

Drawing from experience advising senior leaders and executive teams, this session will also connect these leadership moments with key coaching competencies such as cultivating trust and safety, evoking awareness, and facilitating client growth.

Participants will explore how coaches can create the reflective space leaders need to reconnect with their own judgment while still considering multiple perspectives and organizational realities. Rather than pushing leaders toward quick answers, effective coaching helps them access deeper clarity, responsibility, and confidence in their decisions.

Through reflection and discussion, attendees will gain practical insights and coaching questions that help leaders move from analysis to clarity, and from hesitation to committed action.
