The Vitality Advantage: Cultivating Vitality for Leadership, Wellbeing, and Sustainable Performance

What if sustainable performance begins not with doing more, but with feeling more fully alive?

Vitality is more than energy. It reflects our experience of aliveness, engagement, and the capacity to participate meaningfully in life and work.

Join Katherina Capra, MCC, for an interactive exploration of the science of vitality and its relevance to wellbeing, leadership, and navigating pressure.

Drawing on Positive Psychology and evidence-informed coaching, this session moves beyond traditional wellbeing advice to examine how coaches can help clients recognize what energizes or depletes them, reconnect with what matters, and translate awareness into intentional choices.

Through reflective exercises, coaching questions, and practical applications of the ICF Core Competencies, participants will explore new ways to support vitality and sustainable growth in their coaching conversations.

Learning Objectives tied to Core Competencies:

  • Differentiate subjective vitality from general energy and identify how this distinction can inform client-centered coaching conversations.
  • Recognize verbal, emotional, and behavioral cues related to vitality and depletion while avoiding assumptions or premature interpretation.
  • Demonstrate coaching questions that evoke client awareness of autonomy, values, strengths, purpose, relationships, and personal sources of vitality.
  • Practice partnering with clients to identify meaningful, self-directed actions that support vitality and sustainable change.
Specific Subjects Covered
  • Subjective vitality, Positive Psychology, and Self-Determination Theory as contextual lenses for coaching.
  • Coach self-awareness and presence when working with clients experiencing pressure or depletion.
  • Active listening for energy, meaning, emotions, and emerging possibilities.
  • Evoking awareness without directing the client toward prescribed wellbeing practices.
  • Supporting client-designed actions and learning that can be sustained beyond the coaching conversation.
ICF Core Competencies Applied
  • CC2 — Embodies a Coaching Mindset: Maintaining self-awareness, openness, and reflective practice.
  • CC4 — Cultivates Trust and Safety: Respecting the client's unique experience and choices.
  • CC5 — Maintains Presence: Remaining grounded, curious, and responsive.
  • CC6 — Listens Actively: Attending to words, emotions, energy, and meaning.
  • CC7 — Evokes Awareness: Using inquiry and observation to expand the client's understanding.
  • CC8 — Facilitates Client Growth: Partnering to translate learning into client-selected actions.
Coach-Specific Training and Skill Development
  • The session includes demonstrations of coaching language, reflective listening exercises, practice differentiating observation from interpretation, and client-centered action-planning examples. Participants will develop practical coaching skills that they can apply directly in sessions with clients navigating pressure, change, or reduced vitality.
  • The educational focus is on strengthening professional coaching competencies rather than teaching coaches to diagnose or treat wellbeing conditions.
