The Power of Coaching in Education
A Panel Discussion
Wednesday, May 10, 2023, 12:00 PM
Your help today probably saved my career" started a note from a student who has participated in the ICF South Florida Coaching in Education program. Students don't know what they don't know, and ICF - Coaching in Education program has allowed them to raise awareness of what they need to know about themselves to succeed. This panel, "The Power of Coaching in Education," has invited the non-profit organization "Scholar Career Coaching" to discuss the impact -- and differences -- of coaching, mentorship and tutoring. Moderator: Chris Delboni (ACC), coach and educator. Panelists: Lynne W. Gassant, Executive Director - Scholar Career Coaching; Rachel Bonnaig, Mentoring Program Manager - Scholar Career Coaching; Jorge Bastos - Senior Leadership Coach, ICF coach and mentor at Scholar Career Coaching; and Anamaria Pedraza, an alumni from the program, currently in her third year as a student at Florida International University.
About the Panel:
Moderator: Chris Delboni
Chris Delboni, ACC, educator, communications and life coach, publishes “Seja Feliz” at Orbi.News and directs Nova Southeastern University’s Mako Media Network
Rachel Bonnaig
Rachel Bonnaig
has enjoyed working in Education and After School Youth Enrichment programs for over 20 years. As the new Mentoring Program Manager for Scholar Career Coaching, she is passionate about inspiring youth to believe that with perseverance and a plan, their dreams are tangible. Rachel often leans on her past experience as a Collegiate Dance Coach to encourage others to succeed in the workplace and beyond.
Jorge Bastos
Jorge Bastos, Leadership Coach, MBA, PCC, is passionate about leadership growth. He leverages his 25+ years as a C-level executive in large multinational companies, as well as his experience as a mentor and coach of hundreds of executives in multicultural environments, to guide senior leaders to find more meaning and success in their professional lives. Jorge has a special interest in the development of senior leadership with minorities (Black, Latin, Native Americans), equipping them to realize their full potential.
Jorge has lived in several countries and coaches in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. He is a Board Member for Scholar Career Coaching, a non-profit with the mission to coach, motivate and support low-income students to develop successful college and career paths.
Lynne W. Gassant
Born in Haiti and grew up in Delray Beach, Lynne is a first-generation college student and the first in her family to complete a college education. While still in her early 20s and completing her undergraduate studies in 2012, Lynne founded Scholar Career Coaching so that other students, much like her, could excel in their academics too—with the proper support, success strategies, and mentorship. Lynne is passionate about education and aims to bridge the education gap for minority students.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in public management from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s degree in human resources management from Florida International University. Lynne is a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and a former advisory board member for the City of Boynton Beach Education & Youth. As Scholar CC’s founder, she still manages to live a full, well-rounded life as an HR consultant/business owner, a wife, a mother of two, and a big sister. Lynne attributes much of her success to her hard-working parents, who made sacrifices to give her a better life and education in the US.
Anamaria Pedraza Orjuela
My name is Anamaria Pedraza Orjuela and I am an undergraduate student at Florida International University. I am currently in my junior year of college and am double majoring in Psychology and Health Applied Sciences. As a first-generation college student, I was instilled with the power and breakthrough that education gifts us. However, successfully navigating college applications, scholarships, networking, and interviews would not have been possible without the guidance and support of my mentor and Scholar CC. As I continue navigating my undergraduate journey into graduate school, I have found a growing passion for providing coaching and mentorship to students in ranging academic levels. I am honored to have been invited to participate in this year's ICF Conference and am eager to learn more about this impactful field.
